Awareness of Drugs and Birth Defects

The 50s was a major wake-up for the world. Product named Thalidomide, created by Grunenthal, a german corporation caused major birth defects and other issues. While this is an atrocity when it occurred, one might wonder the implications behind embedding the video on the NY Times website. Specifically noted, the Food and Drug Administration, employed Dr. Frances Kelsey, a female, to the case. Do we trust the FDA's decisions to date. The identification by Dr. Kelsey and swift response by the FDA holds them in the light. Their response shows a sense of urgency and responsibility to the publics. While this depicts a government who serves the peoples interests, that may certainly not be the case today.
